Synthesis and Characterization of Composite Adsorbent from Natural Clay and Banana Peels Waste for Cationic Dye Removal
Abstract This research aimed to synthesize and characterize a composite material from natural clay and banana peel waste as an adsorbent of cationic dye methylene blue. The composite material is prepared by dispersion method in methanol, and then donate as NC-BP Composite. The properties of materials are characterize using XRD, FTIR, XRF, SEM, and TGA analyses. The adsorption test of cationic dye methylene blue was assessed by simple “batch method” with further analysis by spectrophotometry UV-Vis. The results from XRF and SEM-EDX data showed that the NC-BP composite was composed from Fe and Al. The adsorption test indicates that the NC-BP composite performs better than either of the components alone. The methylene blue adsorbed on NC-BP material was larger compared to NC and BP materials with the value of 79.44% and 82.77% in adsorbent mass of 0.2 gram and 0.5 gram, respectively.
