JOGO PATOLÓGICO E ESTRATÉGIAS TERAPÊUTICAS: UMA REVISÃO DE LITERATURA
Due to its clinical aspects, understanding pathological gambling is of utmost importance for psychiatry. However, this condition also presents characteristics that require the attention and intervention of public health. It is a pathology that represents a growing problem in society, especially among vulnerable groups. Pathological gambling significantly affects individuals' mental health and social relationships, bringing consequences for them, their families, and society as a whole, which necessitates an organized, competent, structured, and integrated intervention by health services. Therefore, this study aims to review the literature on the treatment of pathological gambling and define the best strategies for it. The methodology used was a literature review, with searches conducted in databases such as Google Scholar, PubMed, and Scielo. For searches in Portuguese, the descriptors "transtorno," "jogo patológico," and "tratamento" were used, while for searches in English, "disorder," "pathological gambling," and "treatment" were employed, resulting in the selection of twelve publications. In the end, it was concluded that the treatment of pathological gambling involves a multidisciplinary approach, including psychotherapy, pharmacotherapy, self-help, and financial and educational interventions. The most effective strategies for treatment focus on the personalized management of the patient, considering various factors such as the presence of other concurrent psychiatric disorders and the level of the patient's commitment to the recovery process.
