Coupled oscillations of a double pendulum

Abstract Coupled oscillations are observed when two parallel pendulums are joined by a light spring and can also be be observed if the two pendulums are joined in series as a double pendulum. Experimental results with a double pendulum are presented, showing a strong beating effect when the upper mass is much larger than the lower mass.
