Beauty and Brokenness: The Repair Shop as a Case Study in Spirituality and Popular Culture
The BBC TV series The Repair Shop has achieved massive popularity through its combination of traditional craft skills, social history and personal story, brought together in the restoration and repair of everyday objects. Its narratives trace a process ‘from brokenness to beauty’ in which material culture, far from being a distraction from spiritual values and practices, is the vehicle by which the sacredness of the everyday is affirmed. It is suggestive of an incarnational, world-affirming faith that calls humanity to participate in God’s own work of repair and redemption.
