Analysis of Impedance Vector Trajectory when Applying Physical Effort: A Case Study
Collection of clinical evidence is needed for timely diagnosis and specialized patient monitoring. Likewise, bioimpedance analysis is key in obtaining information about body composition, thus, the bioimpedance vector is used to evaluate a patient's metabolic condition. This study proposes to assess the effects of a daily exercise routine on body composition using the bioimpedance vector. Also, the impedance magnitude, the phase angle, and short-term changes are graphically and statistically analyzed. Thus, the bioimpedance vector is plotted as a function of resistance and reactance to observe the behavior of cellular mass and body water. Results show significant differences in impedance over time (p=0.0001) related to changes in the quantity and distribution of body fluids and different types of mass, which can be useful for evaluating the effects of nutrition, sports training, rehabilitation therapies, as well as contributing to timely medical diagnosis in further studies.
