Design on a Compact UWB Antenna with Triple Band-notched Characteristics

In order to effectively suppress the interference of narrow-band communication systems such as Indian National Satellite System (INSAT) band (4.5 ~ 4.8 GHz), Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) band (5.725 ~ 5.825 GHz), and Satellite X band (7.25 ~ 7.75 GHz), a miniaturized coplanar waveguide (CPW) fed Ultra-Wideband (UWB) antenna with triple-notched band is designed. The antenna is 25 mm × 20 mm × 0.5 mm in size and is fabricated on an FR4 dielectric substrate with a dielectric constant of 4.4. The notch characteristics of 4.74 ~ 4.86 GHz, 7.04 ~ 7.55 GHz and 5.44 ~ 6.12 GHz bands are realized by introducing a semicircular annular slot and an inverted C-shaped slot as well as loading an inverted Y-joint branch on the circular radiating patch. The design and optimization process of the antenna are implemented on the Ansys HFSS. The simulation results show that the gain of the antenna varies within 5 dB throughout the UWB band, with a maximum value of 5.32 dB. While achieving three notch characteristics, the antenna also has good radiation directivity. The test results of antenna prototype show that the S11 parameters of the antenna in the three frequency bands of 4.49 ~ 4.57 GHz, 5.56 ~ 6.08 GHz and 6.75 ~ 7.27 GHz all achieve -10 dB or more, achieving the expected notch characteristics.
