Implementation of Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) in Algeria, Towards Climate Resilient Growth Path: The caseof Biofertilizer Application
The agriculture systems in Algeria face a growing number of climate-related vulnerabilities. Climate has become increasingly variable over the past few decades, with droughts, and extreme temperatures occurring more frequently. Going forward, it will be critical to have an understanding of how best to address the trade-offs and synergies between achieving agricultural and economic goals on one hand and preparing for emerging climate challenges on the other. The project's objectives are to promote the use of sustainable farming methods, and increase the ability of the community to withstand the effects of climate change. This study is focused on the production of microbial inoculants based mainly on plant growth promoting bacteria (PGPR) and plant growth promoting fungus (PGPF), and their formulation and employment as biofertilizer. Participatory approach will be used in the project to allows a wide range of stakeholders to be involved in the co-design and implementation of one of the CSA techniques: biofertilizer technology through integrating productivity increases, strengthened resilience and reduced emissions. These stakeholders include farmers, locals, and researchers. The Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) has the potential to make the national development targets for the agriculture sector in the future reachable despite the challenge of climate change.
