A Development of Transmission Expansion Planning Simulation Tool Using Differential Evolution Algorithm

Aiming at developing a simulation tool for Transmission Expansion Planning (TEP), this research adopts Differential Evolution Algorithm (DE) which is a very reliable algorithm while easy to implement. The simulation tool called TEP-DE is carried out using MATLAB® program (M-File and Graphic User Interface (GUI)), that the user can run the application without the knowledge and experience about programming. Not only the TEP-DE simulator is designed for teaching undergraduate students of King Mongkut's University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB), but also it is employed to overcome the lacking of teaching aided in electrical power engineering course. From the results, the developed simulator can be applied for learning and teaching introduction to optimization techniques for power system effectively.
