Development of a Skin Simulator Prototype for Suture Practice in Collaboration with Pereira Rossell Hospital Center

This work addresses the need to create a prototype skin simulator for suture practice training for medical students at the Pereira Rossell Hospital Center (CHPR). Based on the evaluation of materials used in commercially available models in the Uruguayan market, the goal was to scale the prototype using two initial materials: resin and silicone rubber, analyzing resin curing failures under a microscope. The final choice of silicone rubber was selected due to its similarity to human skin, validated through tensile testing and reviewed by expert surgeons. The simulator, manufactured by depositing silicone rubber onto a mold designed and modeled using 3D printing technologies, provides adequate realism for suture practice in a simulated clinical setting.
