Research on 5G Communication System Transmission Scheme Through Penetrations in Reactor Buildings of In-service Nuclear Power Plants

In view of digital transformation strategy in energy industry and intelligent operation demands, 5G communication system is introduced to realize more intelligent applications in nuclear power plants (NPPs) as more and more disadvantages of the existing wire communication systems in NPPs. However, the current electrical penetrations of the reactor buildings of in-service NPPs cannot support optical fiber. The transformation of the penetrations of in-service NPPs involves a large amount of work if new optical fiber penetrations are used. Hence, this paper puts forward the coaxial transmission system which can realize the 5G service signal transmission through coaxial penetrations in and out of the reactor buildings of in-service NPPs. Particularly, the attenuation module of the coaxial transmission system is creatively developed to ensure attenuation balance by adjusting the level attenuation. Whereas, the timing problem of the 5G base station of the reactor buildings comes as follows. And then the 5G base station timing scheme through twisted pair penetrations in and out of the reactor buildings of in-service NPPs is discussed in this paper. Lastly, the test results show that the proposed scheme can meet the signal transmission requirements of 5G communication system, thereby realizing the high-speed intelligent business requirements in reactor buildings of NPPs. Furthermore, it can reduce the overhaul time and operation cost.
