Analysis of the Problems of Rostov-on-Don Improvement

The article studies the fundamental principles of improvement of the densely built-up urban territories, analyses the environmental problems existing on such territories and proposes possible measures to minimize the negative impact of the problems on the environment. The attention is focused on the definite natural and anthropogenic problems affecting improvement of Rostov-on-Don territory: deforestation, rain intensity increase, periods of extreme drought and heat, local increase in winds, dust storms, and the average noise level increase. The issue of building-up the left bank of the Don River, which used to cause disputes among the urban planning and ecology experts, is discussed. Having analysed the current environmental situation in the city of Rostov-on-Don, the authors came to the conclusion that at present the quality of life of its population is far from being good. However, the city administration has already worked out a plan of improvement measures for the period from 2024 to 2026 that indicates the possibility of positive perspectives in enhancing the quality and comfort of people’s life. The present paper may be useful for the professionals in the field of urban planning and ecology.
