Mineralizing Effectiveness of Pleurotus ostreatus and Pleurotus djamor in the Treatment of Lignocellulosic Waste From Cigarette Buts, Cusco (Peru)

Objective: Carry out the mineralizing and detoxifying treatment of cigarette butts, as a solution to the contamination of hazardous non-recyclable waste due to the amount of toxic substances they contain. Theoretical Framework: The research used the applied biotechnology of saprobiotic macromycetes as regenerative treatment systems for the mineralization of toxic substances, through the detoxification of cellulose and lignin fibers due to the enzymatic activity of cellulases. The proliferation of Pleurotus ostreatus and Pleurotus dejamor occurred under induced conditions of HR, ºT and light hours. Method: The methodology includes the degradation process of cellulose and lignin fibers verified by SEM after 45 and 75 days of evaluation. In addition, the EDS allowed studying the mineralization of the indicator elements. The weekly evaluation periods (every 3 days) for 4 months, under conditions of RH, ºT and induced light hours, showed mycelial growth on the substrate of lignocellulosic waste from cigarette butts. Results and Discussion: The results demonstrated the greatest mineralization of Cl and S at 45 days and Ti, Si, Al at 75 days. Controlled environmental parameters are essential for the development of basidiomycetes and the available carbon source represents the growth factor. Originality/Value: The demineralized, detoxified and partially degraded substrate will serve as raw material for reintegration into the production chain, promoting the circular economy, valorizing waste and reducing the environmental impact to zero.
