PRIVAÇÃO DO SONO E A SUSCETIBILIDADE A INFECÇÕES
ABSTRACT Insomnia is one of the most common complaints among individuals with psychiatric illnesses, including adults with depressive and anxiety disorders. Insomnia is not only a mental health problem, but also contributes independently to the risk of infectious and inflammatory diseases, as well as mortality from many causes. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the relationship between sleep deprivation and susceptibility to infections. The methodology used was a literature review, which involved searching for bibliographic materials in various databases, such as Scielo, PubMed and Google Scholar. A total of 12,100 publications were found, of which 12,086 were excluded, leaving 13 publications included in this study - 12 articles and one doctoral thesis. In the end, a significant and notable relationship between sleep and the immune system was observed, with sleep deprivation negatively affecting immune system function, making insomniacs more vulnerable to infectious conditions and pro-inflammatory states.
