Characterization of the acceptance of violence in university students of a public University in Western Mexico

Objective: Characterize the acceptance of violence in university students. The study was carried out with a cross-sectional observational design and measurement through the version adapted to Mexico of the violence acceptance scale (Saldívar et al., 2004). 315 students from a public university participated, 78% women and 21% men, selected with a non-probabilistic technique. Descriptive analyses, reliability tests and two hypothesis tests were carried out: Mann-Whitney U to compare the scale scores by sex and Kruskal Wallis to contrast them by social stratum. A low acceptance of violence and low levels of acceptance of disciplinary violence and family violence were found, consistent with Saldívar et al. (2004). In contrast, high levels of acceptance of military violence were recorded. The hypothesis tests do not show statistically significant differences by sex or social stratum
