Wavelength Decoupling Based on Minimalist Metasurfaces Enabling Bicolor Display and Information Encryption

Abstract Metasurfaces garner widespread attention for their remarkable ability to precisely manipulate light and construct optical multiplexing devices. However, there is still a lack of effective solutions for achieving high‐performance wavelength decoupling in the realm of wavelength multiplexing. In this work, a novel wavelength decoupling method based on minimalist metasurfaces featuring a single‐celled configuration is proposed. These metasurfaces are composed of only two types of nanobricks, each capable of modulating the phase of two different wavelengths simultaneously as desired. The proposed minimalist metasurfaces possess the advantages of flexible design, enabling wavelength decoupling with incidences at both co‐ and cross‐polarization states. Interestingly, by integrating the wavelength decoupling metasurface with liquid crystal devices, information encryption can be achieved. The proposed wavelength decoupling method holds broad application prospects in the fields of optical data storage, image display, information security, and beyond.
