Etikk og risiko for tannleger

English summary Ethics and risk for dentists Nor Tannlegeforen Tid. 2024; 134: 1072-8. This article examines how dentists can work systematically with ethical dilemmas. It contains (1) a description of a method for carrying out an ethical analysis of a dilemma situation and (2) applies this method to a concrete ethical dilemma that Norwegian dentists may face. Central to the method is the Navigation Wheel, a figure that indicates questions that can be set for the various action alternatives. The six headings for these questions are law, identity, morality, reputation, economy and ethics. The dilemma that is then discussed is about a choice between providing expensive treatment to a patient, under the assumption that Helfo will cover the majority of the cost of this treatment. This assumption can later be disregarded, leaving the dentist with a large financial loss. The alternatives of starting treatment under this uncertainty or not are analyzed using the Navigation Wheel, to illustrate how dentists can go about analyzing an ethical dilemma in their professional work.
