Outcome analysis of bicondylar tibia fracture fixation with Enders nail and proximal tibia plating

Bicondylar tibial plateau fractures pose significant challenges in orthopedic management due to their complexity and association with soft tissue injuries. This study evaluates the functional outcomes of bicondylar tibia fracture fixation using Ender’s nail combined with proximal tibial plating via the Less Invasive Stabilization System (LISS) or Minimally Invasive Percutaneous Plate Osteosynthesis (MIPPO) technique. Conducted over three years with 200 patients, the study assessed healing, functional recovery, and complications. Results indicated a satisfactory average time to union of 16.4 weeks, with non-union and malunion rates comparable to traditional fixation methods. The LISS/MIPPO technique minimized soft tissue complications and facilitated early mobilization, proving beneficial for patients with poor skin conditions and compound injuries. Overall, this approach demonstrates promising outcomes, emphasizing the importance of careful patient selection and postoperative management.
