Objectives: 1.To study the pattern of uptake of Non Invasive Prenatal Screening (NIPS) in the current Indian screening scenario & analysis of NIPT results, implications on decision-making 3. To formulate protocols to simplify use of NIPT in our scenario Methods: Retrospective observational study January 2020 to January 2023 540 women who opted for NIPT Analyzed on following parameters Indications of NIPT USG correlation Decision making The indications, advantages, limitations of NIPS were reviewed. Results: Of the 540 women in the study, 211 were from the intermediate risk group after combined screening and 68 from the low risk group.96 women did NIPS without having a combined screening test, only on the basis of USG markers.Amongst 540 NIPS, 26 came back as high risk for Trisomy 13/18/21 or Sex chromosomes.Of the 26 high risk NIPS, 17 were confirmed as Trisomy 21, 2 were Trisomy 18 and 7 were normal on amniocentesis.31 women with 'low risk NIPS' had fetuses with showed major anomalies later in pregnancy. Conclusions: What is already known: Although is it assuring to have a non-invasive prenatal screening with excellent accuracy as NIPS-case selection, interpretation of the report, and further decision-making should follow standardized protocols. What this study adds?NIPS is excellent for Downs syndrome; but abnormal USG markers can be seen in various other abnormalities other than Downs syndrome.Hence, if combined screening risk is high, or there are abnormal markers on USG-invasive testing and thorough serial USGs for evolving anomalies is recommended, rather than a falsely re-assuring NIPS.This study enables the clinician to be updated with NIPT indications, limitations, advantages and interpretations.
