Een transculturele visie op rouw
Death plays an inevitable role in the lives of us all. The grieving process is our response to the many questions this inevitability raises. In our work, we clearly observe that there is no universal pattern of response, and that people experience the meaning of death in hugely different ways. Therefore, it is regularly argued that grief is a highly unique and individual story. However, the grieving process is not a purely individual event, but a construct that people create in dialogue with socio-cultural environments. In this contribution, we want to describe a transcultural vision that can inspire people to recognise grief and mourning in different sociocultural contexts and to support the grief and mourning process with appropriate care. Theoretical principles are clarified and linked to concrete practices.
