Yemen's rival forces may test the status quo
Significance The NRF, allied with the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), is one of the most capable anti-Huthi military forces and occupies much of the southern Red Sea coast. It has battled the Huthis since its formation in early 2018. Impacts Huthis will build on ground developments to strengthen their hand in any anticipated peace negotiations. Control of the southern Red Sea coast would strengthen Huthi supply chains by making it easier for smugglers to deliver illicit materials. The defeat or weakening of the NRF might make other anti-Huthi forces more willing to negotiate with the Huthis.
