O USO DO CANABIDIOL NO TRATAMENTO DOS SINTOMAS DO TRANSTORNO DO ESPECTRO AUTISTA
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition characterized by deficits in communication, social interaction, and repetitive behaviors, with symptoms typically emerging by the age of three. The etiology of ASD is multifactorial, involving both genetic and environmental factors. In Brazil, pharmacological treatments for ASD symptoms, such as aggression, hyperactivity, impulsivity, anxiety, and sleep disturbances, follow guidelines established by the Ministry of Health and the Brazilian Society of Pediatrics. Common medications include antipsychotics like risperidone and aripiprazole, along with other drugs such as olanzapine, quetiapine, ziprasidone, and clozapine. Substances like melatonin, fluoxetine, and cannabidiol (CBD) have also been studied for symptom relief. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of CBD in managing ASD symptoms. A narrative literature review was conducted, utilizing scientific articles from databases such as Google Scholar, SciELO, LILACS, PubMed, and BVS. The review suggests that CBD may be a relevant option for alleviating ASD symptoms, particularly as conventional medications often present adverse effects that compromise quality of life. While CBD shows promising potential in managing certain ASD symptoms, conclusive evidence on its effectiveness, either alone or in combination with THC fractions, remains insufficient for a definitive recommendation. Further research is needed to establish its role in ASD treatment.
