g-C3N4-BASED PHOTOCATALYTIC MATERIALS: RECENT ENHANCEMENTS AND APPLICATIONS IN ENVIRONMENTAL REMEDIATION
In recent decades, graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) a non-metallic semiconductor photocatalyst, has garnered significant attention due to its exceptional electronic configuration, remarkable visible light responsiveness, and unparalleled chemical stability, showcasing immense potential in environmental remediation. Nevertheless, the high recombination rate of photo-generated carriers and limited photocatalytic efficiency of a single g-C3N4 material limit its wide application. Therefore, constructing g-C3N4 based composite materials has become an efficient way to improve their photocatalytic effect. Here, we review the approaches for augmenting the photocatalytic performance of these composites, encompassing the rational architecture of their composite structures, the refinement of modification protocols, and an intensive examination of the underlying mechanisms that facilitate the photocatalytic efficacy improvement of g-C3N4. Furthermore, we discuss the advancements made in harnessing these composites for the efficient remediation of environmental pollutants. This provides ideas for further exploring new and efficient g-C3N4 based composites in the future, deepening our understanding of their photocatalytic mechanism, and expanding their applications in different fields.
