Hexahalogenobismuthates of Glycine
Abstract Five new glycine salts containing zero-dimensional BiX 6 3− hexahalogeno-bismuthate anions were prepared: (GlyH) 3 (BiCl 6 )·2H 2 O ( I ) (space group Pna 2 1 , Z=4), (GlyH) 3 (BiBr 6 )·2H 2 O ( II ) (s.g. Cc , Z=4), (GlyH) 3 (BiBr 6 )·3H 2 O ( III ) (s.g. P 2 1 / n , Z=4), (GlyH) 4 (BiBr 6 )(Br)·H 2 O ( IV ) (s.g. P 1 ¯ , Z=2) and (GlyH) 3 (BiI 6 )·2H 2 O ( V ) (s.g. P 2 1 / n , Z=4). The (Gly + ···Gly + ) type centrosymmetric dimeric cation of glycine was observed for the first time in the structures ( IV ) and ( V ). Infrared spectra were registered and discussed. The bandgap values were calculated and measured.
