Effects of dimensionless structural parameters of rectangular groove on sealing performance of Circumferential Carbon Seal

The effect of rectangular texture dimensionless structure parameters on the sealing characteristics of circular graphite seal s under different working conditions is systematically studied. The results show that with the increase of inlet pressure and rotor speed, the hydrodynamic pressure effect and opening force of the circular graphite seal are gradually enhanced. The sealing leakage increases significantly with the increase of inlet pressure. The opening force of graphite ring decreases with the increase of dimensionless length and aspect ratio, but increases with the increase of dimensionless width. The maximum sealing pressure increases first and then decreases with the increase of dimensionless width and aspect ratio. The maximum sealing pressure reaches the maximum when the dimensionless width is 0.478 and the aspect ratio is 0.185, increases first and then becomes stable with the increase of dimensionless length, and reaches the maximum at 0.068. The total deformation of graphite rings decreases with the increase of dimensionless length and aspect ratio, but increases with the increase of dimensionless width. The research results can provide theoretical basis for the design of circular graphite seal structure.
