Fine modeling of spatial three-dimensional curved steel box girders based on BIM technology

• A fine modeling method based on the BIM (Building Information Modeling) technology is provided for analyzing the three-dimensional curved steel box girder bridge. • The Hangzhou Gang River West Slow-Walking Pedestrian Bridge is taken as an example. • The results show that the BIM technology in this paper is beneficial for conducting the fine modeling of the spatial three-dimensional curved steel box girder. The three-dimensional curved steel girder box bridge is a specialized structure characterized by a spatial combination of horizontal curves, vertical curves, and variations in cross-section. This paper presents an advanced modeling method based on Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology for three-dimensional curved steel box girder bridges, with the Hangzhou Gang River West Slow-Walking Pedestrian Bridge serving as a case study. The parameters related to the horizontal, vertical, and elliptical curves from the two-dimensional drawings are collected to facilitate the parametric modeling of the three-dimensional curved steel box girder. This approach overcomes the limitations of traditional two-dimensional wireframe drawing methods and suitable for the in-depth design and manufacturing processes for steel plates. The findings demonstrate that the BIM technology in this paper is beneficial for conducting the fine modeling of the spatial three-dimensional curved steel box girder.
