Welcome Message
Behavioral and socio-cultural sciences are increasingly recognized as essential in governance, management, business intelligence, and problem-solving. The emerging field of Behavioral and Social Computing (BESC) explores innovative methodologies, techniques, and tools to represent, model, analyze, understand, and manage human behaviors, as well as social and cultural dynamics, both online and in the physical world. While traditional behavioral and social sciences focus on explicit methods of eliciting and analyzing behaviors and social drivers, BESC adopts a novel approach that converts transactional feature spaces into behavioral, social, and cultural feature spaces. This enables a deeper exploration of the underlying factors that shape and manage interactions among users, organizations, communities, and computing systems. Leveraging advancements in information and communication technologies, BESC enhances the modeling and governance of key social and organizational concepts such as community, trust, credibility, and privacy. Notable research areas within the BESC community include web usage and user preference analysis, collective intelligence and crowd behavior, credit evaluation, the detection of exceptional behaviors in criminal and terrorist activities, and investor trading pattern analysis in capital markets.
