Automated Monitoring of Oocytes During the Extracorporeal Maturation Process

Efficient and accurate oocyte monitoring is crucial for ensuring their quality during maturation. Manual observation often disrupts the oocyte maturation process, potentially affecting oocyte quality. To address this issue, we propose a method for automated monitoring of oocytes during the maturation process. Our method employs the Tenengrad algorithm for initial well edge focusing, followed by spiral scanning and the Circle Hough Transform for oocyte detection. Detected oocytes are centered in the camera frame, and fine focusing is achieved using the Tenengrad method. Experimental results show that our approach reduces monitoring time while maintaining consistent oocyte po-sitioning, with the initial search time of 50.63 seconds decreasing to an average of 21.3 seconds for subsequent searches and an average deviation in oocyte positioning of approximately 21.62 µm, indicating high accuracy. This demonstrates the efficiency and reliability of our automated monitoring method, providing a robust solution for real-time oocyte monitoring without manual intervention.
