Determination of Harmonic Filter Effect on Single-Phase Residential Energy Meter

This study examines the impact of the use of non-linear loads in household installations with 450 VA power on harmonic distortion and accuracy of kWh meter readings, both analog and digital. Using hardware such as LIPUVINDO LPV 510520 Analog kWh Meter, HUABANG Digital kWh Meter, HIOKI 3197 Power Quality Analyzer, and OMRON H5-CX Timer, as well as loads in the form of incandescent lamps, LEDs, LHE, monitors, chargers, and 1-phase motors, the study found that harmonic distortion can cause kWh meter reading errors of up to 9,83% at 450 VA loads. The accuracy of the kWh meter is very important because a small error can cause losses to both consumers and manufacturers. The data shows that the greater the THDI (Total Harmonic Distortion Current) value, the greater the error of the kWh meter reading, with the percentage of error reaching 2,54% on digital kWh meters and 9,837% on analog kWh meters for 450 VA loads. This study emphasizes the importance of taking into account the load to maintain the quality of power in household installations, especially in low-voltage installations that are widely used in Indonesia.
