CUIDADOS PALIATIVOS NA ATENÇÃO PRIMÁRIA À SAÚDE: RELATO DE EXPERIÊNCIA
With advancements in science and technology, life expectancy has increased, consequently raising the incidence of chronic diseases. The World Health Organization (WHO) has recognized the importance of palliative care (PC) in improving the quality of life for patients with severe illnesses. This study presents the experience in primary care within the realm of PC, correlating theory and practice developed during a family and community medicine residency. The methodology included the analysis of clinical data obtained during the residency in basic health units in Anápolis/GO, and a literature review from PubMed and Scielo platforms, focusing on articles published between 2018 and 2024. The implementation of Health Care Networks and Home Care proved crucial, promoting continuous and humanized care. Insufficient training of physicians in PC and challenges such as the complexity of home care and lack of infrastructure were identified as limiting factors. The use of assessment scales to identify patients and guide specific care plans is essential. Interdisciplinarity and articulation among sectors are fundamental to ensure comprehensive care. Multidisciplinary teams are crucial to addressing the physical, psychosocial, and spiritual dimensions of patients. The discussion on bioethics is vital for ethical and humane practices. It is concluded that the effective implementation of PC in Primary Health Care requires continuous professional training, structuring of care networks, and public policies that ensure comprehensive and humanized care, meeting the real needs of patients.
