(Re)evaluating sister-cities for economic development? Pracademic viewpoints

Sister-city relations have been in existence for decades, though little has been written about how they manifest outside of economic trade and investment opportunities. Towards greater sociocultural exchanges and potential in terms of economic and sociocultural gains are conceptualised. This pracademic viewpoint proposes two frameworks to address the risks, and how to approach new sister-city partnerships in the future. • Addresses the overlooked dimensions of how sister-city relations should be assessed • Contributes two frameworks to evaluate risks and prioritisation of sister-city relations • Adopts the frameworks to the context of an emerging destination, and demonstrates the broader applications elsewhere
