Analysis of Parallel Operation Characteristics of Small and Large Vehicles on Urban Roads Based on Drone Video

When large and small vehicles travel parallel to each other in adjacent lanes on urban roads, large vehicles such as buses and other large vehicles will have different trajectory characteristics because their width, field of view, and operating characteristics differ from those of small cars. In this paper, we study the operation characteristics of large and small vehicles in parallel from the microscopic level and use genetic algorithms to calibrate the mechanical parameters in the social force model based on the extracted trajectory data to reveal the interaction mechanism of large and small vehicles in parallel under different operation conditions. The results show the interaction between large and small vehicles increases as lane width narrows, but the effect of large vehicles on small vehicles is often greater than the effect of small vehicles on large vehicles. This is of great practical significance for rational lane management and vehicle operation control.
