Acceptance and Influence Mechanism of Drivers towards Graphical Route Information Panels: A Case Study in China
To investigate the response mechanism and route choice behavior of drivers under the influence of Graphical Route Information Panel (GRIP), we conducted a random intention survey to collect data on route choice behavior. Specifically, this study focused on the Shanghai Elevated GRIP as an illustrative example. We developed a mixed logit model to construct an off-ramp choice behavior model and analyze the factors influencing respondents’ choice behavior and their acceptance of GRIP information in different scenarios. The research reveals significant variations in route choice behavior among respondents when they are exposed to different congestion and accident information provided by GRIP. With GRIP offering information ranging from general congestion to accidents, the percentage of respondents opting for early lane changes increases from 43.5% to 95.1%. Socio-economic and travel attributes, like age, education level, driving experience, driving frequency, familiarity with elevated road, frequency of using elevated road, and method of obtaining travel information (GPS, FM), have a significant impact on choice behavior. Moreover, respondents’ attention to GRIP and the impact of GRIP on travel showed different taste differences in the behavior of different sample groups.
