Crack Propagation Simulation of Asphalt Bridge Deck Pavement with Top-Down and Reflection Cracks Based on Scale Model

This study aims to simulate the crack propagation of bridge deck pavement with two cracks (top-down and reflection cracks). Reduced-size double-layer composite plate specimens are constructed to model bridge deck pavement layers. Abaqus is used to simulate the fracture process of these composite plate specimens. The load–displacement curves at the loading points and the propagation paths of the cracks at different locations are obtained. The results show that as the distance from the location of the crack to the center of the composite plate specimen increases, the maximum load required for the composite plate specimen to reach the failure state increases. The extended finite element method effectively simulates the coupled propagation behavior of two cracks in bridge deck pavement.
