Understanding People’s Ridesourcing Service-Related Behavior Change after COVID-19 Lockdown in Shanghai, 2022
This study examines the influence of a three-month COVID-19 lockdown in Shanghai on the frequency of ridesourcing service use and the willingness of users to continue utilizing these services post-pandemic. Two surveys were conducted employing a blend of stated preference and revealed preference questions, one before and the other after the lockdown. Over 1,200 responses were collected in 2022. Ordered logistic regression models were estimated to analyze the influence of factors such as sociodemographic characteristics and attitudes towards ridesourcing services. Model estimates underscore the statistically significant impact of perceived vehicle cleanliness, the perceived severity of the pandemic, perceived vaccine effectiveness, and general attitudes towards ridesourcing services on these behavioral changes. The findings of this study offer valuable insights that may aid policymakers in crafting effective strategies to shape ridesourcing perception and behaviors in a post-pandemic context.
