Research on Interchange Type Optimization Based on Free-Flow Toll Collection
With the trend towards Free-Flow Toll Collection (FFTC), the option of interchange is not limited by toll station. This study is based on the research of FFTC, using VISSIM simulation to illustrate that the interchange types can improve performance. Using simulation results and a comprehensive evaluation model, the paper calculates comprehensive evaluation results of interchanges and provides specific type selection suggestions for different traffic conditions. The research shows that the interchange types applicable to traditional toll collection are no longer advantageous in terms of traffic performance and economy. Generally, the diamond interchange is the first choice for the intersection of highways and secondary roads, and the cloverleaf interchange is preferred for the intersection of highways and main roads in China. This research aims to provide design references for interchange type selection under the trend of FFTC.
