Innovative PVDF Nanofiber Films for Intelligent Driver Status Monitoring Systems

Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) nanofiber films have played a significant role in flexible sensors for real-time monitoring of drivers’ driving states owing to their high sensitivity, flexibility, and lightweight. However, the relationship between properties of final PVDF nanofiber films and processing parameters in electrospinning process has not been thoroughly investigated. Therefore, this paper delves into the in-depth study of electrospinning processes for fabricating highly oriented PVDF fibers using various drum speeds. The morphology, β-phase content, and mechanical and piezoelectric performance of created PVDF fibers have been characterized by SEM, XRD, FTIR, and mechanical and electrical testing machine. The paper provides a detailed process for the highly oriented PVDF fiber preparation method and assembly of flexible sensors, which can be successfully applied to the recognition of simple human joint movements. Additionally, we discuss the potential applications of these sensors in intelligent driving systems, emphasizing their advantages such as high sensitivity, flexibility, and low cost, thereby offering a feasible solution to enhance driver safety and comfort.
