A Data-Driven Framework for Smart Parking and Charging

Integrating electric vehicles (EVs) into cities has brought new challenges in the realm of parking. Parking is a challenging problem in many metropolitan cities. However, with the surge in the adoption rate of EVs driven by rapid advancements in vehicle electrification, the parking issue has become intertwined with the charging issue. Their coexistence has generated a more complex scenario where both parking and charging demands will be satisfied by limited capacities. Addressing this dual challenge requires efficient planning of parking spaces and charging infrastructure and coordination between regulators, drivers, and stakeholders. This paper studies a data-driven framework for smart parking and charging. The framework fuses multisource data to analyze the spatial distribution status of urban parking and charging facilities and forecast the characteristics of parking and charging demands. This comprehensive framework enables the efficient operation and management of parking and charging resources, ensuring the diverse demands of drivers are met satisfactorily.
