Applications and Challenges of IoT and Cloud Computing in Distance Education

The rapid advancement of Internet of Things (IoT) and Cloud Computing technologies has revolutionized distance education by enabling real-time interaction, personalized learning experiences, and scalable educational infrastructures. IoT devices, through real-time data collection and feedback, have improved the engagement and interactivity of online learning environments, while cloud computing provides the computational power and storage necessary to support largescale Learning Management Systems (LMS). However, the implementation of these technologies in education faces several challenges, including network latency, device interoperability, data security, and high deployment costs. This paper systematically examines the applications of IoT and cloud computing in distance education and explores the key technical and security challenges associated with these technologies. Additionally, it provides insights into emerging technologies such as 5G, edge computing, artificial intelligence, and blockchain, which are expected to enhance the future potential of IoT and cloud computing in education. The research demonstrates that despite the existing challenges, the integration of IoT and cloud computing technologies will continue to drive innovation in distance education, contributing to improved education quality and global accessibility.
