Optimization of unit commitment considering frequency constraints with wind-storage frequency control

Abstract As global productivity levels continue to escalate, issues such as energy shortages and environmental pollution have become increasingly pressing. Wind energy, owing to its vast reserves and zero-emission characteristics, has garnered significant attention for development and utilization. Nevertheless, the inherent randomness and uncertainty of wind power have adverse effects on the frequency security of power systems. Consequently, this paper proposes an optimization approach for unit commitments that integrates frequency security constraints with wind-storage frequency regulation control. In the proposed solution, based on a multi-machine model where both wind power and energy storage contribute to frequency control simultaneously, an expression for system frequency variation considering wind-storage frequency regulation is derived. Starting from the frequency response models of various power sources, an equivalent method is adopted to obtain the minimum point frequency constraint, leading to the development of a unit commitment model that incorporates both wind-storage frequency regulation and frequency constraints. The effectiveness of the proposed method is then validated through comprehensive simulation experiments.
