The Dimension of Green Coding in Software Quality Control Processes

As the importance of sustainability increases in various sectors due to the effects of climate change, environmental responsibility is expected to be prioritized in the software development sector. This study examines the integration of green and sustainable practices into the software development lifecycle, specifically the DevOps framework. The study begins by emphasizing the importance of DevOps in increasing customer satisfaction through continuous integration and delivery, and touches upon the features of software quality tools and the rules used to measure coding quality specific to the SonarQube product. It has been determined that among these rules, green rules are few in number or there is a gap in their clear inclusion. With the concepts of green software and green coding, the software must minimize its environmental impact. In addition to the efforts of existing initiatives such as the Green Software Foundation and Green Web Foundation to promote sustainable software practices, studies conducted in the academic world also show that the importance of this issue is increasing. Finally, the study proposes a green software application that aims to raise environmental awareness among software developers and produce energy-efficient, low-carbon-intensive software by combining manual and automatic green coding rules with gamification techniques. This innovative approach will aim to reduce the ecological footprint of the software industry while maintaining quality and performance standards.
