Prediction of Water Consumption in Fire Extinguishing Processes Using Machine Learning Approaches

Fires are one of the most serious threats to communities and require rapid response. Among the most critical resources in combating these disasters is water. Water is used as a fundamental tool in extinguishing fires, preventing the spread of flames, and playing a vital role in post-fire cooling operations. For the effective intervention of fire departments, accurately predicting the necessary amount of water based on the type and scale of the fire is of great importance. In this study, data from the last three years obtained from the Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department are used. The study examined how well machine learning models can predict the amount of water needed for fires. According to the R2 performance metric, success rates of up to 0.52 during model training and 0.37 during model testing are achieved.
