A 11.2 kWh LiPo Battery Hybrid Balancer Converter: Implementation and Trade-Off
This paper describes the implementation procedures and tradeoffs to develop 11.2 kWh LiPo battery bank in an 83 kW electric vehicle. The characteristics of the battery bank, which uses 16 Ah lithium polymer (LiPo) cells, are presented, along with the mechanical and physical considerations necessary to achieve a proper and functional circuit layout on board the electric vehicle. In addition, a Buck-Boost converter circuit is proposed as a hybrid balancer, showing experimental results of two LiPo cells connected in series that validate the ideal waveforms, demonstrating a promising potential for application in lithium polymer batteries.
