EEG-Based Assessment of Bilateral Brain Activation Comparison and Hand Functional Improvement Using Virtual Reality Mirror Therapy Combined with Robot-Assisted Upper Limb Intervention
This study recruited 30 healthy participants for a clinical trial combining Virtual Reality Mirror Therapy (VRMT) with robot-assisted therapy for upper limb rehabilitation. We deve loped a virtual reality mirror therapy system and two robot -assisted therapy systems targeting different remote upper limb j oints. In addition to verifying hand function using 5 clinical evaluati on methods, we monitored EEG signals during the rehabilitation process and analyzed two indicators in EEG rehab -ERD and C oherence. In the results of hand function evaluation, post-interventi on performance was better than pre-intervention, but significant d ifferences in rehabilitation effectiveness with the addition of robotassisted therapy were not observed. However, the EEG analysis ind icators showed that Mu and Beta bands ERD after synchronous r obot-assisted therapy was more pronounced compared to the VRM T group. Differences in coherence were also observed, indicating an increase in coherence in the Mu and Beta bands in the robot-assisted therapy groups compared to the VRMT.
