Economic Control Strategies for Combined Heat and Power Source-Grid-Load-Storage System in Cold Regions

In Northeast China, characterized by a high proportion of renewable energy and a cold climate, ensuring renewable energy integration and heating stability is of critical importance. This study addresses these challenges by aggregating electric-thermal flexibility resources within source-grid-load-storage systems and enabling their participation in the ancillary service market. The research first models the involvement of electric-thermal integrated source-grid-load-storage systems in the ancillary service market, focusing on real-time peak shaving for gas turbines and compensation mechanisms for adjustable loads and energy storage across different time periods. The study then explores economic control strategies for these integrated systems within the context of the ancillary service market. It considers the aggregation of various generators, including gas turbines, electric-thermal cogeneration units, wind turbines, and photovoltaics, while also accounting for the peak load-shaving capabilities of energy storage devices and the demand response potential of flexible electric and thermal loads. The proposed model is validated using actual data from a region in Jilin Province over a continuous 7-day period in December 2022. An incremental benefit analysis is conducted on the operation of the source-grid-load-storage system. The case study results demonstrate that the proposed economic control strategies for electric-thermal integrated source-grid-load-storage systems, when considering the ancillary service market, can effectively enhance economic benefits, improve renewable energy integration capacity, and maintain heating stability in cold regions.
