Multi-objective Optimization for Sustainable Production Routing Problem using NSGA-II Algorithm

The Production Routing Problem (PRP) is a significant research area within supply chain management. PRP can be expanded to incorporate environmental and social considerations alongside traditional economic considerations. Given the complexity of PRPs, there is limited research that integrates all three dimensions of sustainability into this problem. This study aims to propose a multi-objective model that incorporates these three sustainability dimensions. The proposed model includes three conflicting objectives: minimizing the total operational cost, minimizing the total emissions cost, and minimizing the social impact cost. Futhermore, multi-objective optimization for sustainable PRP is solved using the ‘gamultiobj’ in MATLAB. Based on a problem with 2 plants and 5 customers, ‘gamultiobj’ proves to be highly effective in the uniformity of spread of points, as indicated by a significant decrease of 193.6 in the spacing metric value. In addition, this method also demonstrates strong performance by achieving a reduction of 0.61 in the inverted generational distance value when compared to the weighted sum approach. This highlights the superior performance of ‘gamultiobj’ in achieving both convergence and diversity within the solution set.
