Primary School Students' ICT Competences: A Hierarchical and Multidimensional Machine Learning Assessment Model

This study established a multidimensional and multilevel information literacy evaluation model using the multi-label multiclassification method in machine learning. Our presented model includes five dimensions: information, communication, content creation, security, and problem-solving. Each dimension was divided into three levels: basic (A), intermediate (B), and advanced (C). The model was then used to evaluate the information literacy of 3,233 primary school students. The results showed that most students were at the lower A level in the dimensions of information, communication, content creation, and problem-solving, while in the security dimension, most students were at the intermediate B level. This study provides a deep understanding of primary school students' information literacy from multiple perspectives and levels and can serve as a basis for education managers to understand the status of primary school students' information literacy and develop targeted information literacy education strategies.
