The Study of Peace Journalism: Kashmir Issue Perspective

In this study, the nature and representation of news published in two Bangladeshi newspapers have been analyzed using the ideas of the peace journalism model given by the Norwegian social scientist Johan Galtung. Here the coding frames are prepared in light of the peace journalism model for framing analysis; besides this, the content analysis method is used. Considering the overall results of the research, it is found that the Bangladeshi media are still dependent on the traditional style of journalism in reporting war and conflicts. Peace journalism practice has not been found on a large scale till now. Except for some events, the Bangladeshi media are practicing war journalism on a large scale in almost every case. The journalism practice of Bangladesh doesn’t show any evidence of coming out the conventional trends; rather, it shows the trends of sustaining the conflicts and contributing to shaping the problem to a greater degree. However, it has been proven in peace journalism practice that the media can play a vital role in resolving conflicts and establishing peace.
