The Interconnection between the Gaudiya Vaishnavism of Bengal and Manipuri Culture
The research explores the cultural interconnection between the Gaudiya Vaishnavism of Bengal and Manipuri culture, highlighting the historical influences that have shaped their relationship. It reveals that even before the introduction of Gaudiya Vaishnavism in Manipur, cultural ties were established through kirtana singers, which later deepened into religious associations. The influence of Bengali culture is evident in Manipuri language, literature, music and dance, enriching the cultural landscape of Manipur. Notably, Rabindranath Tagore played a crucial role in popularizing Manipuri dance and extending its reach beyond geographical boundaries. The integration of Manipuri weaving into the Bengali textile industry further exemplifies the mutual links between the two communities. The arrival of Manipuri people in Bangladesh has fostered the thriving exchange, leading to the flourishing of Manipuri language and literature under Bengali influence. This dynamic interplay allows Manipuri artists in Bangladesh to practice their cultural traditions while also embracing Bengali culture, with Bangladeshi artists actively promoting Manipuri dance. Despite the significant impact of Bengali culture, Manipuri culture has maintained its unique identity, enriching Bengali traditions with its diversity. Ultimately the ongoing cultural exchanges between Bengali and Manipuri have resulted in a rich culturar fusion. This paper presents in-depth analysis of these interactions, emphasizing the evolving nature of cultural identity and universal language of culture itself.
