Vivir en continuo estado de alerta. Los repetidos traslados de capital en la alcaldía mayor de Tabasco (1525-1795)

This work focuses on the governmental instability experienced by the alcaldía mayor of Tabasco during the more than three centuries of Spanish domination in the region, which resulted in the capital of this alcaldía undergoing various relocations, from Santa María de la Victoria to Tacotalpa, passing through San Juan Bautista de Villahermosa, to the point where its development and institutional consolidation within the framework of the New Spain viceroyalty were compromised. In this sense, in addition to the relocations themselves, the causes that motivated the constant changes are analyzed, fundamentally polarized by pirate attacks, the consequences of which affected political, economic, and social levels.
