Ayurvedic management of hemifacial spasm

Hemifacial Spasm (HFS) is characterized by unilateral intermittent twitching of facial muscles. In Ayurveda, it may be considered one of the presentations of Ardita based on its clinical signs and symptoms. The study aimed to determine the efficacy of the Ayurvedic regimen in HFSs. Here is the case of a 51-year-old male patient with a two-year history of twitching of the eye, and involuntary contractions of his right facial expression muscles, involving both the upper and lower face on the right side. The condition was diagnosed as HFS and successfully managed with oral Ayurveda medicines, facial oil massage, fomentation, and medication through the nasal route (~ Nasya ). The duration for involuntary contractions of right facial expression muscles was significantly decreased in about four months. Based on the observations, it can be concluded that Ayurveda treatment can provide better results in cases like hemifacial spasms.
